Emerling, Fugle, Sherwood Collect Wins at WCIS

PERRY, NY…. Sunshine and Blue Skies welcomed the fans to Wyoming County International Speedway on Disco Night. The days of “Saturday Night Fever” and music from the era were remembered as so was the racing action on third mile Perry oval. Patrick Emerling reigned supreme in the SST Modifieds while Austyn Fugle won his first 2011 feature in the Super Stocks and Kirk Sherwood won in the 4 Cylinder feature event.

SST Modified Winner Patrick Emerling
Dan Hoag and heat winner Patrick Emerling led the SST Modifieds to the green flag in their 35 lap feature and it was Emerling showing the way in his Emerling Enterprises, Gauthier Blacktopping machine out of Orchard Park. Early problems for 2010 SST Modified Champion Andy Jankowiak as he got pinned up against the back stretch wall on the opening lap, causing his MAT Services, Rear End Specialists machine to go pit side for the duration of the night.

Back up front, Emerling pulled away from the field and was leading in commanding fashion over the strong field of SST Modifieds. TJ Zacharias tried everything in his power to reel in the leader as was Dick Kluth and Jim Love fighting for third. Kluth and Love were going at it for third for much of the event and Love was able to get by with a couple of laps remaining to finish third. Patrick Emerling led from start to finish picking up his first feature win of 2011 with Zacharias in second and Jim Love finished in third.

Super Stock Feature Winner Austyn Fugle
Daniel Majchrzak and Heat winner Jay Canonico led the SST Super Stocks to the green flag with Canonico leading the first go around with Majchrzak, Phil Alhart Jr., Jeremy Gray and Jeremy Gray running in the top five on the opening laps of the 25 lap feature event.  Brad Collings had problems and stopped his 45 in turn one to bring out the caution for the first time. On the restart, Canonico would continue to show the Super Stocks the fast way around the Bullring. Heat winner Joe Mancuso spun his Best Western on the Avenue 64 machine in turn four to slow the field down for the second time.

While leading, Canonico would have problems with his right front and smacked the turn four wall. Canonico however was able to get his Dagofast Fabrication, Vic’s Auto Service, Cochrane Motorsports entry back to the pit area. Off the restart it was Austyn Fugle showing the way with Alhart and Majchrzak running second and third and Fugle was pulling away from the field. Fugle was challenged late in the event by Majchrzak and Joe Mancuso and it was Fugle picking up his first win of 2011 at WCIS with Majchrzak and Mancuso finishing in the top three.

4 Cylinder winner Kirk Sherwood
Joe Horvatits and Eric Haistreiter led the field to the green flag with Haistreiter out to the early lead. Heat winner Jason Landcastle hit the back stretch wall on the opening go around and was able to continue on. Brian Johnson took over the point on lap one with Kirk Sherwood running in second with Haistreiter in third. Sherwood would get around Johnson just before the halfway mark of the event and began to pull away from the 2009 track champion Johnson. Sherwood’s Woodsmith Fencing Corp machine was strong from the get go and he would hold off Johnson and Haistreiter to pick up his second feature win of 2011 at the Bullring.
