Nick Cooper Tops Sunday Win List at Limerock Speedway
CALEDONIA, NY… Mother Nature attempted to stop the racing festivities but the race officials and management of the Limerock Speedway decided to run their scheduled racing program on Patriots Day. After two separate rain delays, the call was made to keep going and the weather made for great racing action on the 1/8th mile oval. Winners at the speedway included Nick Cooper in the 600cc Open, Chris Stockham in the 600cc Wingless Sprints, Jeff Clauss in the Solid Surfaces Inc. 250/450cc Sportsman, and Kyle Morrow in the 270cc’s and Missy Clauss in the 125cc Sportsman. In the Go-Kart divisions, it was Donovan Hubbard and Tyler Irwin picking up the victories.
“The Highside Hustler” Nick Cooper and Matt Smith led the
field of 600cc Micro Sprints to the green flag in their 30 lap feature event
with Cooper out to the early lead. The
first caution came out on lap one involving Keith Heater, Tom Minderler, Shawn
Freeland, Alan Buchanan and Pat Kelly. Minderler and Buchanan were unable to
rejoin the field. On the restart it was Cooper leading Matt Smith and Matt Farnham.
The yellow lights would immediately come back on for a spinning Danny Knoll III
as the third generation driver from Amherst hit the turn one implement barrels
but was able to rejoin the field. On the restart, “The Highside Hustler”
continued to show the fast way around the speedway. Bill Coffey slows in turn
four to bring out the caution flag once again. The restart saw Cooper continue
to show Smith around the speedway and Farnham, Jarkiewicz and Jim Lafler around
the speedway with Tyler Walker passing Brandon Goetz for the number sixth.
The red flag flew on lap number 8 for Matt Smith as the
Canandaigua pilot hit the Armco barrier and lost the handle and flipped on his
side. He was able to walk away from the accident.
Off the restart, Matt Farnham was right behind Nick
Cooper but Cooper was able to pull away from the field. Heat Winner Frank
Jarkiewicz battled with Jim Lafler and Tyler Walker right behind them in the
top five as the race leaders were about to hit lap traffic until the caution
came back out. Kristen Dombrowski pulled her 17k pitside after bringing out the
caution on lap number 13.
The restart saw Cooper pull away once again and the
battle was on for fourth. Tyler Walker was able to get around Lafler coming out
of turn two as the Raceway 5 600cc Micro Sprint Points Champion was able to
pick up the number four spot. The
leaders hit lap traffic once again before the event was said and done and
Cooper’s lead was over a half a straightaway with five laps remaining. Nick
Cooper made the trip from Stanley, NY worth his while as he won the 30 lap
feature for the 600’s. Matt Farnham would finish in second followed closely to
the line by Walker, Lafler and Jarkiewicz.
Chris Stockham and John Colaprette Jr. led the field of
600cc wingless to the green flag in their feature event and it was Stockham out
to the early lead. Colaprette Jr ran in second with Tyler Walker and Matt
Farnham right there trying to catch the top two. Walker would finally clear Farnham as heat
winner Frank Jarkiewicz and Jacob Szymkowiak would battle for the fifth spot for
much of the event.
The first caution of the event came out on lap number 14
as Chad Richey lost power on his number 98 ride and the Spencerport driver
would be able to rejoin the field for the six lap shootout. At the same time,
Josh Farnsworth would pull his Scooter’s Restaurant, Sunnyside Cycle Sales
entry to the infield for the duration of the event.
On the restart, it was Stockham out front with Colaprette
and Walker right on his tale with Matt Farnham looking for the third spot and
would complete the pass with three laps remaining. John Venuto would pass
Walker for fourth just one lap later.
Chris Stockham would lead from start to finish; picking up his third win of the season. Colaprette Jr. would finish second followed by Farnham, Venuto and Walker.
Jeff Clauss and heat winner Jim Austin led the field of
Solid Surfaces Inc. 250/450 Sportsman to the green flag and it was Clauss out
to the early race lead. Austin, Dusty Williams and Shane O’Grady battled for
the second spot with Austin coming up on top of that battle early on. Jeff Clauss would win the feature over Jim
Austin, Shane O’Grady, Dusty Williams and Dan Muench.
Missy Clauss and Kennedy White led the 125cc Sportsman to
the green flag for their 15 lap feature event and it was Clauss out to the
early race lead. Missy would lead from start to finish picking up the win over
White and Corry McKee. Kyle Morrow and Jim Howard competed in the 270cc
division and it was Morrow picking up the win over Jim Howard.
Jacob Callan, Joe Santini and Robert Stevenson III
competed in the round of Quad Wars at “the Rock” and it was Callan out front
early over Santini. Santini threw everything “but the kitchen sink” to get
around Callan but Callan was too strong and Callan picked up the checkered
flag.
In the go-karts it was Tyler Irwin picking up the win in
the Junior 2 division and Donovan Hubbard in the Junior 1. The Irwin family was
on the front row for the Junior 2 feature event as it was Makayla and Tyler
Irwin leading the way. Tyler Irwin took the lead away from Sister Makayla off
the start of their feature event. Austin Shaw worked around Makayla Irwin for
the runner up spot but Tyler Irwin was too much to pick up the feature win. Donovan
Hubbard and Geordan Mitchell competed in the Junior 1 feature event and it was
“Dynamite” Donovan Hubbard winning the feature event over Geordan Mitchell.
Limerock Speedway gets back in action for their final two
weeks of the season on September 17th and 24th. Gates
open at 4pm and racing will get underway at 7:00pm from the speedway located on
Flint Hill Road, just off of NYS Route 5 in the town of Caledonia, NY. For more
